In an area where water quality is an issue like mine , it is reassuring to have a water filter that really works on your fridge . I have found this water filter to be reliable . This filter does a terrible job of filtering out the Calcium Magnesium in our hard water. It leaves hard water stains behind, in my glass and in the reservoir. I have to soak it in vinegar quite often. I always change the filter early. My Amana filter was much better!

It's a water filter, the one required for my refrigerator. If you are going to stay genuine GE parts rather than knockoffs then the lowest price was a sale at the GE site for a 3 pack. Processing and shipping took much longer than expected -- I bought it on a Thursday and it did not ship until the following Monday night. Shipping was through a parcel service with handoff to USPS for last mile which caused further delays. If you need it in a hurry, go elsewhere

I ordered the correct replacement 3 pack filters, but on arrival I received XWFE 3 pack. The label number on the outside of the box was correct. I called GE immediately and was shipped the correct water filters. GE Appliance emailed me a return shipping label for me to drop off at Fed-X.

The water filter itself seems to work fine, but having it expire based on date rather than usage makes it a 1 star experience. I have a second home where I spend 5 months of the year - yet I still have to replace the water filter 6 months after installation even though it was only used for one month. This does not make sense since I have not had to do this with other refrigerator brands. Further, the dispenser is locked so you cannot use it at all if the water filter shows as expired. There should be another measure than time - perhaps the number of times water flows through the filter. When I called the support line, the only other option was to install a bypass for the filter. So my choices were to either replace what should be a good filter with a new one or not use the filter system at all. Badly designed system.

Some filters won™™t seat properly or leak; I have to throw them out. When seated and doesn™™t leak they work as expected. But since the filters aren™™t cheap, throwing one out is infuriating. Sometimes the fridge just won™™t accept the new filter and refuses to operate the dispenser.

I've ordered the RPWFE filters for many years. They may cost a little more than the copycat filters, but they never leak and they deliver clean, good tasting water that I can count on. Follow the installation and removal instructions carefully and take your time. Depending on your model, it may take you a couple of minutes to figure out how to get it seated (or removed) properly.

Do not use this service! GE contacted me with a proposal to provide filters for my "registered" GE Cafe refrigerator. I simple said, "yes", and paid the bill. The parts they shipped (RPWFE) did not fit my appliance. I asked for, and received, an RMA the next day. I shipped the filters back on 3/30/2026. I have still not been credited for the return, and their agents cannot talk to me about replacing the wrong filters with the right ones (XWFE) until that credit occurs! Going forward, I would rather buy these filters at Lowe's where I am more apt to receive the right ones. And, if not, returns are much easier! Don't get me wrong. The fridge is great! We love it. I'm just not pleased with their filter replacement program.

A product retrofitted with a chip that forces you to use the proprietary product is not my favorite business practice. The filters work, but at 6 months, no matter what your fridge is going to turn on an annoying red light to replace the filter... but only with the expensive GE-branded ones that have a chip in them.
